Mr. Bunthin is a 56 year old married man with one daughter who is 18 years old and currently still attends the local school. The family live in the Ek Phnom District of Battambang Province where he farms short term rice each year which is then sold to provide the family income.
Mr. Bunthin has been a farmer for over 30 years growing short term rice each year on his 10 hectare sized paddy field. With this short term rice he can get two harvests per year amounting to three tons of rice per hectare. All of the crops are then sold to a local middle man who buys direct from the farm. As his cash flow is tight at present he has requested this 12 month loan to buy some fertiliser, pesticide and weed-killer along with paying ploughing costs at the rate of $50 (£41.49) per hectare and harvesting costs.
