Celestin

Celestin is 43 years old and lives with his wife and their six children in Ngororero District in the Western Province of Rwanda. One of his children study in secondary, four of their children attend primary school but the younger one is still too young to go to school. He and his wife are both potato farmers.

Celestin's parents were also farmers and he learned how to farm from them. He is requesting his second loan to invest in his farming activities by buying seed potatoes, fertiliser, compost and vitamins. He will use around half of the money to buy potato seeds, and the remaining will be invested in fertiliser, compost and vitamins, and to pay labourers to help him. He employs 5 temporary employees and with this loan he will employ another 3. This loan will help his family because it will increase his profits, meaning he can continue to pay his children's school fees as well as save some money to cover fees when his other child is old enough to attend school. He’ll also be able to continue to provide all the basic needs such as food, shelter, education, clothes, cover health care etc for his family. In the future he believes he will be able to harvest 10 tonnes of potatoes as a result of his hard work and support.
