Najma Kausar is 42 years old and an entrepreneur from Kasur. She makes bedsheets out of fabric and sells them to shopkeepers, earning around £63 per month. Her earnings goes towards supporting her family which consists of herself, her husband (a loader rickshaw driver) and their two children, a son and a daughter of ages 12 and 10 respectively. Both their children are going to school.
Najma Kausar buys fabrics and makes custom bedsheets, using embroidery to beautify them. The embroidery is done with a machine in different patterns and designs such as flowers, abstract, geometric patterns etc. Her husband is Liaqat Ali and he drives a loader rickshaw, earning around £80 per month.
Najma Kausar wants to expand her production. She has requested an interest-free loan from our local partner Akhuwat Foundation. She will use the loan money to buy special fabric used for making bedsheets. She will buy the fabric in different types so that she can offer her customers more choices of her designed bedsheets. For the most part, she just used to work on cotton but she also wants to work on nylon mix, cotton satin, silk, wash and easy use etc. This will allow her to cater for more shopkeepers and earn more profit. The increased profits will improve her quality of life.
