Ecuador
Angela Alejandra is from the small town of Malacatos in southern Ecuador. Angela is currently studying a course in nursing and nutrition. She also works as a cleaner to support herself.
Angela also raises pigs on an area of land that her father has given her to farm. When the animals reach a good weight she sells them to wholesalers from nearby towns such as Vilcabamba and Quinara. She is proud to be able to support herself and pay for her ongoing education. Angela has around 13 pigs at present. She requested a loan to buy 30 sacks of maize for $18 each, 20 sacks of animal feed for $30 each, 10 pigs for $100 each, and the rest of the money is to repair the pig shelters. The loan is repayable over 20 months.
