Ecuador
Doña Olga Isobel is from the province of Zamora-Chinchipe in south-eastern Ecuador. Together with her husband she is a dairy farmer. They have two adult children.
Doña Olga sells milk from her cows. She has some beef cattle as well which she sells at the cattle fair in the provincial capital Zamora from time to time. Doña Olga owns the pasture she keeps the animals on. She has been dairy farming for more than 30 years. She had initially come over from another city called Loja to work as a caretaker on another farm and the owner gave her 2 calves to raise on his land. Doña Olga has worked extremely hard over the years and eventually by saving and with not inconsiderable entrepreneurial ability she was able to buy two different plots of land where she keeps cattle. She is still repaying a long-term loan she received to purchase the larger of the two properties. Doña Olga increased the scale of her farming when her husband's grandfather passed away and gave them two dairy cows. Currently, they have 12 dairy cows and 8 beef cattle. They hire a farm hand and are hoping to take on another after the receipt of the loan. Each day they sell between 80-100 litres of milk to a factory that makes cheese. Doña Olga requested a relatively large loan to buy 5 Holstein breed dairy cows to improve milk production. She will also buy some medicines for her animals and additional feed. If you are lending, please be aware that due to the current COVID-19 pandemic your repayments could be at greater risk of delay or default.
