Ecuador
Luis Byron is from Cotacachi in the province of Imbabura in northern Ecuador. He lives with his partner and children in a rural community called Gualsaquí Bajo. For the last for years he has worked as a tailor. He also has a smallholding where he grows organic vegetables which he sells at the farmers markets on Sundays.
Luis Byron learned to make garments from helping his sister. He spends around nine hours each day tailoring. He requested a loan of $3,000 repayable over 18 months. About $1,600 is to buy fabric to work with, specifically materials to makes jackets and also lycra. The rest of the money is to buy construction materials to improve his home which also serves as his workshop. Specifically, $170 is for cement, $400 for metal windows, $600 for a zinc roof, and the rest is for galvanised steel wire. If you are lending, please be aware that due to the current COVID-19 pandemic your repayments could be at greater risk of delay or default.
