Mrs. Noeurng Sou is a 35 year old married woman with two children aged 8 and 4. The older child is now at school while the younger remains at home. The family live in the Phnom Srok District of Banteaymeanchey Province where she and her husband farm wet season rice and cassava each year as the source of income for the family.
Mrs. Noeurng Sou and her husband have been farmers for over 15 years. They have a paddy field which is two hectares in size on which they grow wet season rice and get a crop of 2 tons of rice per hectare. In addition to their rice paddy field they also have another field which is three hectares in size and on which they grow cassava, getting a harvest of 10 tons of cassava root per hectare which is then sold on to market. For their cassava harvest they also employ 5 local villagers on a seasonal basis to assist with chopping the cassava root. She has now requested a 36 month loan to cover the costs of fertiliser, crop protection products that will protect the crops from harmful insects until the crops are harvested as well as paying harvesting costs.
