Devotha Murekatete is 36 years old. She sells groceries in a shop in her sector of Muhoza. She lives with her husband and their 3 children who are studying at a local school. Her husband grows potatoes.
Devotha Murekatete normally runs a wholesale grocery shop where she sells assorted items such as nappies, jugs, body oil, sugar, salt, rice, sweets, clothes, belts and non-perishable food stuffs. She decided to start this activity because people from her village used to travel long distance to buy the day to day necessary items. Her business helped in bringing the items close to their village. She purchases different assorted items in large quantities from the town of Musanze and transports them via truck to her village in Muhoza. As the items are downloaded, she supplies the items to the wholesalers, other shop owners as well as retailing them to individual clients in her own shop.
She applied for a large loan to buy larger amounts of stocks so that she can increase her sale to the wholesalers as well as in her own shop. The profits from her business will go towards repaying the loan, paying the school fees for her children and provide the basic necessities for her family such as clothes, rent, food, health care etc.
Devotha Murekatete employs 3 permanent employees to help her in everyday activities in her shop. In the future, she would like to have a big grocery shop and have her own car to reduce depending on public transport. She promised to repay the loan amount within 36 months without difficulties.
