Rwanda
Elie Karinda is 38 years old and lives with his wife and their four children. Three of his children attend school while a youngest is not yet old enough. He is a potato farmer. He also works for a small ‘taxi Moto’ business and currently transports locals between villages by motorbike.
Unfortunately, he does not own his own motorbike, meaning he has to work for another boss to operate as a taxi Moto rider. His employer allows him to use one of his motorbikes and charges him approximately half of what he earns in revenue.
Elie would therefore like to become self-employed, so he has requested this loan in order to purchase his own motorbike for taxi. He is confident that this investment will mean he can significantly increase his income and save for the future. He promises to repay the loan within 18 months without arrears and difficulties because in his farmland there is a mature potato crop which is nearly to be harvested.
The number of COVID cases has remained relatively low in Rwanda after a very strict national lockdown was introduced in the summer. Small businesses are still trying to recover from the impacts of lockdown and closed borders and require vital capital to help rebuild their businesses.
If you are lending, please be aware that due to the current COVID-19 pandemic your repayments could be at greater risk of delay or default.
