Sokun

Loan description:

Sokun Luch is a 53 year old widow with two children. She has been a member of the Ek Phnom Credit Union since 2004. She owns a smallholding that is located about four kilometres from her home. She is growing corn. Since her husband died she has assumed principal responsibility for earning the household income. She has sought a loan to prepare her land, and purchase seeds and fertilizer. Her aim is to diversify her activities and in addition to the farm, after this year's harvest she wants to purchase a small boat that she intends to use ferrying passengers, especially schoolchildren, across a river since there is no nearby bridge. She expects that the local villagers will be attracted by her service as it will save them time and money.
