Mr. Thim Sor is a 35 year old married man with two children – a son aged 4 and a daughter of 1. The family live in the Svaychek District of Banteaymeanchey Province where he has been a farmer for the last 5 years, farming wet-season rice as the source of income for the family.
Mr. Thim Sor has been a farmer for the last 5 years and has a small plot of land of just 0.5 hectares in size on which he grows wet-season rice and gets a harvest of 1.5 tons of rice, which is then sold to a local middle man. In order to expand his farm, his crops and his income Mr. Thim Sor has now applied for a 36 month loan so that he can purchase an additional hectare of land for growing wet-season rice. He would expect to get 3 tons of rice per harvest from this additional land.
