Success Monze 0708 Group

Success Monze 0708 group is made up of five women based in the district of Monze, who run various small businesses mainly stalls selling vegetables, grocery shop and clothes. The majority of the women are married and have children. They started their businesses to create self-employment and educate their children.

Rabecca 46 years old, she sells tomatoes, onions, vegetables and eggs in order to earn a living. She is a mother of four children and also cares for three relatives. Her husband runs a small business as well.

The Success Monze 0708 group members would like to receive a loan so that they are able to invest in their businesses. The featured member Rabecca will use her share of the group loan to buy stocks of tomatoes, beans and Kapenta. She started her business to be independent financially and has been running the business for 5 years. Rabecca dreams of growing her business and providing her family with a better future.

The Microloan Foundation in Zambia lend to female entrepreneurs using the ‘centre’ model. A centre is typically made up of 3-4 sub-groups and these sub-groups almost always have five members. Each centre has its own name and the sub-groups within the centre share the same name. Each person within the group of five women is responsible for repaying her loan but the members support each other and if a member is unable to repay her loan on time, then the group assumes responsibility for repayment. Loan officers provide training to the groups, although it is expected that centre leaders will eventually assume responsibility for providing some of the basic training.
