Mr. Chet Choy is a 27 year old married man with two children, a daughter of 6 who attends school and a son aged 1. He lives with his wife and family in the Ek Phnom District of Battambang Province where he has been a farmer for the last 5 years.
Mr. Chet Choy and his wife are farmers growing wet-season rice on their one-hectare plot of land from which they get 3 tons of rice per year. In order to increase their income, after the rice has been harvested, they use the same land for growing watermelons and these also are sold to market through a local middle-man. In order to cut down on costs as well as optimising the farming he now is seeking a 36 month loan to purchase a walking tractor so that he can plough the land on time as well as saving the current $50 (£38) per time rental costs on a walking tractor.
