Joselyn Alexandra is 20 years old, single and is from the Santa Ines neighbourhood of Mira, in Carchi province. For the past 2 years she has been cultivating corn, beans, barley and quinoa. Joselyn sows the seeds twice a year, and after harvesting she sells her produce at $20 (around £ 15.15) a bundle to merchants and local markets. To boost her income, Jocelyn also does additional hours of agricultural work so that she can support her family by helping with the household bills.
Joselyn Alexandra Morillo Guzman applied for a loan to purchase fertiliser, and will spend the rest of her loan on other agricultural inputs which will help to increase her crop yield. Joselyn starts working at 8 am every day, cleaning and watering her crops. She then goes home to study for her university degree- which used to be a 1 hour commute to everyday, but due to the pandemic Joselyn currently has to study from home virtually.
Joselyn is concerned about the potential consequences of the pandemic on her income, but as she now has to study from home, she has more time to care for her crops. She decided to take advantage of this by applying for this loan so that she can grow her crops more efficiently, and therefore increase her income to continue to support her family and help with the cost of her studies.
Joselyn will repay her loan across 3 repayments over 18 months, each payment 6 months apart. Please see the repayment schedule below for more details.
“If you are lending, please be aware that due to the current COVID-19 pandemic your repayments could be at greater risk of delay or default”.
