Mrs. Samoeurt San is a 38 year old married woman with three children – two daughters and a son aged 14, 12 and 9, all of whom currently attend school. The family live in the Ek Phnom District of Battambang Province. She and her husband have been farmers for the last 15 years, farming short-term rice and green beans for sale.
Mrs. Samoeurt San and her husband farm short-term rice and green beans which are then sold through a local middle-man. They have a plot of land of three hectares in size on which they grow short-term rice and get a crop yield of 3 tons per hectare. After the rice has been harvested, they then use the same plot of land to grow green beans which can be harvested after 90 days. The green bean crop amounts to 900Kgs per hectare of land. In order to increase the family income Mrs. Samoeurt San wants to expand the farm and so she has applied for a loan to enable her to purchase an additional hectare of land on which to grow short-term rice and would reasonably expect a crop yield of 3 tons per harvest on this additional land. Please note that this loan will not be repaid in equal monthly instalments. Please see the repayment schedule below for more details.
