Zambia
Sikambe centre has a membership of 24 women who are all into small scale businesses as a way of being able to provide daily meals for their families. These women have 136 children plus orphans who are in school. The centre has requested for the second loan after successfully being trained in business management skills and being able to repay the first loan from the profits of the business.
Joyce Mubanga is a member of the Sikambe Centre. She is 51 years old, married and has five children who are in school. She has a piggery where she rears pigs and sells them to people who have butcheries in her community. She started her business with the hope of being able to provide for her children. She has now had her business for the past fifteen years and she is grateful that she has achieved what she wanted. She has plans of diversifying her business and would like to start rearing goats also.
She is requesting this loan to order piglets, feed and she also has hopes of building a bigger piggery as she sees her business growing because of the access to loans.
Please note that Zambia is currently experiencing acute food insecurity and water shortages due to the worst drought the country has experienced in nearly 40 years. At this time there is an additional risk that some of the loans from Zambia might be delayed or defaulted. You can find more information here.
