Mr. Rathana Vutha has been a farmer for the recent years. He is 27 years old, married and he has a daughter who is one year old. He lives with his family in Sangke District of Battambang Province. He farms short term rice, and this is his source of income for supporting his family.
Mr. Rathana Vutha farms short term rice on a one-hectare farmland. He farms his rice crops twice a year. His rice crops are ready for harvest in and around 90 days’ time and the yield he collects are 4 tonnes of crops that is sold on the market.
For growing more short-term rice crops he rents three more hectares of farmland and the renting cost is around $100 (about £ 76) per hectare a year. To get more rice crops to sell on the market he requested a 36 months’ loan in order to purchase a plot of land that is around 2000 square meters for growing more short-term rice.
