Mr. Touch is a 44 year old farmer living in Kamrieng District of Battambang Province with his wife and six children. Their oldest child is 24 years old, and their youngest child is 11 years old. Their younger children are all studying currently.
He and his wife farm cassava on a plot of land measuring roughly three hectares. They generally yield about 10 tonnes of cassava route per hectare, which they sell to a local middleman who buys from their farm.
The couple also hire 10 villagers to assist them in chopping the cassava root and each worker earns about $5 a day helping with this. In order to ensure the same yield of cassava as last year, he and his wife have requested a loan to purchase some commercial fertilizer, crop protection products, pay for ploughing costs and cover additional labour. A part of the loan will also be used to buy an additional plot of land so that they can diversify their crops and also grow rice.
