Chantal is a 30 year old married woman. Her husband is a mechanic, they have 3 children, all of them enrolled in school. For the last 6 years, Chantal has been a gari producer - gari, the staple food most common in Benin is made out of cassava through a complex, artisanal process. Chantal also sells smoked fish and vegetables and condiments for the sauce eaten with gari. She sells most of her gari production at the Zinvie market and the rest to her neighbours and other people in her village. Chantal employs 6 people for the production of gari and pays them properly. Chantal is very friendly and has a good number of customers, more than her closer competitors. Chantal has been a member of the microfinance institution for many years and she is at present applying for a loan worth 600,000 FCFA that will allow her to acquire 4 loads of cassava tubercles and a large amount of fresh fish that she and her assistants wil prepare and smoke to sell them at the market. The profits generated from this loan will allow her to help her husband with the household expenses and to ensure that all her children can go to school.
Original text in French: Agée de 30 ans, Chantal est mariée à un mécanicien et est mère de 03 enfants tous scolarisés. Depuis environ 06 années, elle est productrice de la farine de manioc. A cela s’ajoute la vente du nécessaire pour la sauce (tous les condiments) et surtout la vente du poisson fumé dans le village. La plus grande partie de sa production de farine de manioc est livrée sur le marché de Zinvié et le reste permet de servir les détaillants du village et environ. Pour accroître sa production de farine, Chantal emploie 06 personnes qu’elle paie convenablement. Elle détient dans son portefeuille plus de clients que ses concurrents du fait de son accueil. Bénéficiaire des produits de l’ACFB depuis plusieurs années, le présent prêt d’un montant de 600.000 FCFA l’aiderait à s’approvisionner en 04 bâchées de manioc et en poissons frais pour mieux servir sa clientèle. Le profit dégagé de ce prêt permettrait d’aider son mari à faire face aux dépenses courantes de la maison et surtout d’assurer un avenir scolaire à ses enfants.
