Anwar Dar Ahmad is a 48 years old. He is a smallholder farmer and lives with his family near the town of Tulkarem in the northern West Bank,
Anwar has four children. He has been farming for the past 20 years or so. He owns two acres of land, on part of which he has greenhouses which permit him to grow tomatoes out of season and in a controlled environment. Anwar owns a vehicle and transports his own harvest to sell to wholesalers in Tulkarem. From time to time he employs a labourer to help him. He requested a loan to buy tomato 400 tomato plantseach one costing $3; compost in bulk for $1,500; frames for the plants to grow up costing $4,500; and sheeting costing $1,000 to reduce the temperature of the greenhouses in the summer months as it can get very hot in Palestine. He will keep part of the loan in case of unexpected expenditures. The loan is repayable over 47 monthly instalments.
