Jorge Rodrigo Macas is 18, single and lives with his parents in the 'barrio' of 'El Retorno' which is in the parish of Malacatos. He has a small enterprise raising and selling chickens for their meat. Additionally, he works as an assistant labourer to an experienced builder. His income helps his parents cover household expenses. When he is working as a construction labourer his mother helps feed the chickens and keeps clean the area where they are housed. Jorge requested a loan in order to buy 100 chicks and also several 100 kilogram bags of feed for the birds (specialist feed as well as maize). He can generally sell them at around three months for a healthy profit. He intends to repay the loan over six months.
