Mr. Mon Met is a farmer, he is 32 years old. He has one child, aged 10 years old who is at school. He grows wet season rice for sale every year on his nine hectares of land. He has applied for a loan to cover his farming costs.
Mr. Mon farms rice on land the size of nine hectares. He grows only wet season rice. As his rice paddy has no irrigation system, he only plants one harvest per year, which takes 6 months before he is able to collect his produce of 2.5 tones per hectare. The middlemen buys the harvest directly from his farm. As he is short of funds, he wants to borrow a 24 month loan in order to purchase some fertiliser, pesticide, weed killer, pay for ploughing costs and to cover threshing costs.
