Cambodia
Loan description:
Sopheap Hem is 30 and married to Sovann and they have two sons, aged 8 and 14 respectively. Both children attend school. Sopheap and her family live in the Sangke district of Battambang province in north-western Cambodia. For the past six years Sopheap and her husband have run a business buying and selling used motorcycles. They buy the secondhand motorcycles from local villagers and resell them in the city of Battambang, which is around 30 kilometres away from their home, with a slight mark-up. On average, they sell around ten motorcycles a month and can make a profit of between $30 and $100 per machine depending upon its condition. It is a profitable business and since they started doing this they have been able to support themselves much more easily. They requested a loan in order to purchase several motorcycles that have become available locally. Sopheap intends to repay the loan over 18 months.
