Micheline Koukpohounsi is a 60 year old widow. She has 7 adult children whose ages are between 40 and 24 years. The last two are still her dependents. Micheline did not go to school as a child. She has specialized in the trade of cassava flour or gari. Gari is obtained from cassava tubers peeled, dried and grounded. For 20 years, she has had a shop called "Idogan" located in the neighbourhood where she lives. Some of her children work there too. Besides gari, she sells sesame seeds retail. Micheline joined the the microfinance institution ACFB 5 years ago and has been a loyal customer. She is now applying for a new loan buy cassava flour and sesame in bulk. This credit will be repaid in 12 months. She intends to use the profits to keep the business growing and to pay for her household expenses.
