Eduardo Bato is a 37 year-old married fisherman who lives in Tuburan Cebu. He is also a father of 3 children; the eldest being 17, the second is 5 and the youngest is 3 years old. He has been earning his livelihood from fishing for the past 8 years. Along with two assistans, Eduardo fishes the coast of Cebu. His catch is sold at the local public market.Although he is an experienced fisherman he admits that his family is worried every time he sets sail. He became a borrower of the Microfinance Institution, First Consolidated almost 6 years ago and has regularly recevied and repaid loans. With the current request he wants to purchase newer fishing equipment, including reels, rods and nets, to replace his existing older equipment. He expects the newer equipment to be easier to use and more durable making his job easier. Eventually he wants to be able to acquire his own delivery truck so that he does not have to pay for transportation costs.
