Parveen Akhtar is 48 years old, married and lives in the city of Kasur. She has a son and two daughters, and all three of her children go to school as she wants them to get well educated and become government employees. Her husband is an embroidery worker and he earns around £77 a month.
Parveen Akhtar runs a fancy embroidery business herself from home. She sews beads, pearls, and diamonds into elaborate motifs and patterns onto fabric, which are then used to make formal festive outfits for women. She receives all orders from retailers and boutiques situated in different markets of Kasur.
She herself earns around £62 a month on average. She now needs to buy more fabric and embroidery material to improve her output and so has requested a loan so she can buy fabric, and embroidery supplies such as pearls, sequins and stones.
