María Loayza is from the coastal province of El Oro in southern Ecuador. She is married with two children who are both in school. Doña María is a florist. She offers floral arrangements and bouquets, both natural and artificial works made from foam as gifts for weddings, piñatas, and christenings. She used to work from someone else before setting up her own business. Doña María initially worked from a room provided by her mother. The floor was unsuitable for she invested some money in improving the flooring and gradually her business has developed. She later invested in new windows so her work could be properly displayed. Her services have become better known in neighbourng towns. Doña María requested a loan for painting and remodelling her flower shop. She expects to repay the loan over 9 monthly installments.
