Rufino Colala is a small-scale farmer from near the small town of Zumba which is in Zamora-Chinchipe, the gateway to the Amazon region of Ecuador. He has been breeding cattle and growing cacao all his adult life. He started farming more than 40 years ago when his parents gifted him a heifer to start and he was also able to buy two more cows. Don Rufino is married with nine children, only the youngest two who are studying are still at home. He has a herd of cattle and employs one labourer to help him. Don Rufino requested a loan to buy a good quality bull to improve his herd. He expects to repay the loan iover 9 months.
