Marites

Loan description:

Marites Saban is 35 years old and a mother of two young children. Her eldest child is five years old and attends the local pre-elementary school while her youngest child is only two years old. She also helps support the needs of her six year old niece. She is married to a 44 year old man named Diosdado who is a mechanical engineer. Her family lives in the neighbourhood of Lut-od, which is in the town of Pinamungajan, Cebu province. Marites works as a dedicated owner of a progressing internet shop in the nearby town centre. She started by providing a few units of desktop computers for villagers to use as a way of communicating with loved ones abroad. She now has more than ten units that give her community full access to social networking sites as well as online messaging systems. Her charges are affordable at ten to twenty Philippine pesos per hour. The computers are placed on separate wooden tables in her shop. Marites also ensures that all the wirings and electrical sources are secure and safe so as to avoid any possible accidents. Aside from the internet cafe, she is also busy managing a small meat shop in the public market. This has been an additional source of income for her family over the last four years. She also accepts orders of the famous ‘lechon baboy’ which is a specially-made pork delicacy famous in the province of Cebu. She currently employs a total of eight regular and part-time staff who assist her in her internet cafe and on her meat stall. Marites is an active member of the microfinance organisation, Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and has previously repaid five loan cycles. She has requested a larger loan amount this time in order to add more computer units to her internet cafe as well as to improve the facilities of the business. She also wants to provide some additional capitalisation for her meat shop so she can keep her products fresh and varied. Marites plans to save her income in her LMPC savings account and will use it for the future educational needs of her children. Marites is an outstanding wife, mother and businesswoman who dreams for the continued prosperity of her family and career. She intends to repay the loan over a short period of three months.
