Loan description:
Jose Calixtro is a fisherman from Matin-ao, Mainit in Surigao province. He is 44 years old and married with nine children. He has supported his family through fishing for the last twenty years. He fishes using nets and a small boat in the local seas together with two relatives. Their catch is sold to local wholesalers and traders. He has been a client of the microfinance organisation Surigao Economic Development Foundation for the past ten years. During this time he has received and repaid around twenty short-term loans. He recently requested a loan equivalent to 25,000 Philippine pesos in order to buy new fishing equipment, particularly nets. He also hopes to make some repairs to his boat. Once all household expenses are met, his aim is always to ensure that he has enough to pay for all his children's education costs - he wants to make sure all of them finish college at least. His loan is relatively short-term and repayable over a period of six months.
