Chitukuko comprises of 13 women aged between 26 and 56.Most of these women are married but others are divorced or widowed. These women have children who are in school and they also take care of orphans who are also in schools. The group is based in the Kafue district of Zambia. These women run small scale businesses such as selling tomatoes, fresh and dry fish, groceries and fruits with the hope of uplifting their living conditions. The group is requesting for fifth loan after repaying the previous four loans.
45 years old Clara Mawili is a member of this group. She runs a market stall selling different kapenta (small fish) and beans in the local market. She is married with four school going children. She started this business in order to boost her family’s financial and economical status. She will use her share of the loan as a top up capital to order more stocks of kapenta and beans for her stall. After ordering these things her business will attract a lot of customers hence she will make more profits. She runs her business with the help of her relatives but hopes to employ someone soon.
