Savan Soeurb is 40 years old and married with five children. Her children are aged between 26 and four and only her youngest child is currently at school since her older children now have their own jobs as construction workers. Savan lives in Odambang village, which is in Sangke district, Battambang province. Her husband is a construction worker and has been engaged in this type of business for the past ten years. He is now in the position to hire people to help him out in his construction business. He pays around $3 to $5 a day for one person. At home, Savan runs another business raising pigs. At the moment she has nine piglets. She uses commercial feed mixed with vegetables to feed them. Savan spends about five months fattening her pigs and then sells them to a local buyer. Since her source of funds is currently limited, she has applied for a loan in order to buy nine more piglets, pay for their vaccinations and also buy some commercial feed. A part of the loan will also be used to buy a motorbike and construction equipment for her husband's business. Savan will pay this loan back over 14 months.
