Ecuador
Loan description:
Joselito Vélez is 39 years old and lives in the rural community of San Pedro de La Bendita in the district of Catamayo in southern Ecuador. He has four children who study at a local college. Joselito is a mason and has managed to build his own house. He used to work as a labourer as well. In difficult economic times though, Joselito and his wife decided to start additional business activities, specifically raising chickens. As well as being quite profitable, raising chickens is an easy activity to manage from home. Joselito's wife (shown in the photograph) makes and sells biscuits and cakes. Joselito sought a loan in order to buy more chicks and animal feed. The chickens are sold for their meat in the nearby town of Catamayo. The loan is for six months.
