Byron Jaramillo is single and lives with his parents near the town of Catamayo. Don Byron has been farming for the last ten years or so. He grows mainly maize on around two hectares of land. He earns additional income by working as a driver for a bus company. He receives 35% of the takings on the bus he drives. He often contracts labourers when he needs help at particularly labour-intensive times such as harvesting paying each $15 per day. He sells his harvest to local merchants. Don Byron requested a loan to buy fertiliser and crop protection products to ensure that he has the maximum yield and it is not lost to pests and disease.
