Loan description:

Charity is 34 years old and a married mother with three children. The eldest is 8 and the youngest is 8 months. The two eldest children attend the primary school in the neighbourhood of Avédji in Lomé where the family also lives. Charity’s husband is a commercial agent at the main mobile telephone business in the country. For more than 4 years, Charity has specialised in the production and sale of local soaps. She has a production workshop at her house, where she assembles the different primary materials (such as cocoa butter and soya milk) for the manufacture of her soap. Her soaps are perfumed and foam well which gives her an advantage over other competitors in the market. Retailers come to purchase soaps from her on a wholesale basis so that they can resell them on. She approached the microfinance organisation WAGES to request her first loan for 1,000,000 West African francs so that she can expand her stocks of cocoa butter, soya milk and packaging. She sources her stocks from Lomé. She plans to repay her loan within 15 months. Before she ran this business, Charity used to be a retailer in fabrics. Charity hopes that this financial support will help her to modernise her trade and move her family into the home that they need.
