Roeurn Horn is 54 years old and married with four children, who are aged between 26 and 13 years old. Roeurn's two younger children are still at school while her elder children have their own jobs. Roeurn and her family live in Sneng Keut village, which is in Banon district, Battambang province. Roeurn is a farmer and farms seven hectares of rice paddy. The yield gives her family around two tonnes per hectare and she stocks two tonnes for her family's consumption and sells the remainder to a local trader. Last year she used her income from farming to buy a new hand tractor which has helped greatly to reduce the costs associated with farming. Aside from farming rice, Roeurn also grows sesame on two hectares. The yield from her sesame is around 500 kilograms per hectare. As her working capital is currently limited, Roeurn has applied for a loan to buy good quality sesame seeds, insecticide and diesel for her water pump. Roeurn expects to pay her loan back over six months.
