Alvina Romera is 40 years old, married and has 4 dependents: her daughter, son and nieces, who are 15, 14, 12 and 10 respectively. Her children and nieces all attend school and her husband is a 42 year old businessman named John. Her family happily lives in the neighbourhood of North Granada in the town of Boljoon in Cebu province where Alvina also owns and manages a small beauty salon, which offers haircutting and dying services. Alvina provides the customer services having learnt the basic processes and procedures of hair grooming. The business has been operating for 12 months, but has seen rapid progress. The beauty salon now has a new wall paint and air-conditioning unit, which creates a pleasant and comfortable ambiance for her customers. Alvina continues to gather regular customers, both children and adults, with varying preferences . With this loan from the microfinance organisation, Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative she will purchase additional equipment and supplies such as hair gels, hair sprays, blowers and combs. This will help to improve her other services such as her hair spa and hair relaxing services. She plans to save her earnings in order to provide for the educational needs of all her dependents. This will bring Alvina one step closer to having a very successful beauty salon in her town. She has committed to returning the loan amount over a period of three months.
