Loan description:
Melitona Suycano is 54 years old and married. She lives with her husband in the rural area of Lagundi which is a neighbourhood in the town of Oslob in Cebu province. Melitona cares for her two grandsons. The elder one is nine and studies at the local primary school while the younger one is just two months old. Her husband, Wilfredo, is 55 years old and a businessman. Melitona is an experienced cook and runs a small restaurant. She prepares between 8-10 different dishes, including meat, fish and vegetables, each day for customers at the restaurant which is next to her home. Many of her neighbours are regular customers and mostly come during lunch and dinner time. Additionally, Melitona has established a small grocery store next to the restaurant from where she sells a range of basic foods and animal feed. She is particularly careful to ensure that her restaurant food is clean and the food well presented - the dishes are enclosed in plastic or metal containers. She applied for a loan from the microfinance organisation, Lamac Multi-Purpose Co-operative in order to buy more ingredients for the restaurant and extra stock for her grocery store. She has been a member of the Co-operative for the past two years and has already received and repaid three loans. She promised to repay the loan over a period of just three months.
