Loan description:
Ludi is 38 years old and married with five children. Her children are aged between 15 and 21 and they are all currently at school. Ludi's husband works in construction in Loja, the town where they all live. Ludi has been working in Mayorista market for 21 years but six years ago she decided to rent a space to start cooking and selling food. Ludi decided to change enterprise because she wasn't making enough money selling fruit and grains in the market. Ludi uses her small restaurant to cook breakfast and lunch for people in the local area. She typically cooks pork and rice, chicken and rice and soups but tries to diversify her menu as often as possible. Ludi has been a member of the microfinance organisation, FACES, for a number of years and this will be her fifth loan. She has used her most recent loan to buy new equipment and to buy the materials to make her tables and chairs. With the credit Ludi has received from FACES she has been able to move from selling fruit and grains to setting up a small restaurant and now her business is growing and expanding. The profits she makes from this business are no longer just for survival but now she can use them to pay for her children's education. In the future, Ludi would like to rent more space in the market and expand her restaurant - she really enjoys working in the market so for the time being she doesn't want to leave this space. She hopes that all her children finish school successfully and get good jobs. Ludi will repay her loan over six months.
