Chhouy Leav is 66 years old and a widower with one daughter who is 18 years old. Nowadays, Chhouy and his daughter live in Watkanteu village, which is in Banon district, Battambang province. Both Chhouy and his daughter run a general store from their home and have been doing this together for the past nine years. At the moment they sell a wide range of products including chili sauce, sugar, spices, soft drinks, shampoo and toothpaste. During the week Chhouy goes to buy new stock from Boeng Chhouk market which is 25 kilometers away from his home. He usually rents a taxi to deliver his goods from the market. To meet his customers demand while his working capital is limited, Chhouy decided to ask for a loan in order to buy new stock. With this great loan, Chhouy expects to be able to buy stock in bulk and therefore spend more time expanding and growing his business. He will pay the loan back over nine months.
