Loan description:
Phaloeurt Chhi is 20 years old and married with one son, who is aged eight months old. They live in Prey Toteng village, which is in Thmor Korl district, Battambang province. Phaloeurt’s husband, Sinat Chhorm, is a farmer and at the moment Phaloeurt looks after her son at home. Phaloeurt and her hsuband farm three hectares of rice paddy, which is located 500 meters away from their home. The yield provides them with around three tonnes per hectare and they keep one tonne for their basic needs and sell the remainder to a trader. They can only grow rice once a year, but her husband tries to make more income for the household by working as a construction worker, where he can earn about $6 a day. To grow their rice on time while their source of funds is currently limited, Phaloeurt and her husband have decided to ask for a six month loan to buy good quality seeds, some commercial fertiliser and to help pay for ploughing costs. In the future, Phaloeurt wants to own a general store from her home so she can work and look after her children full time.
