Loan description:
Ra Rom is 33 years old and married to Ret Yon. They currently have two sons aged between three and seven years old; the eldest attends the local primary school. They live in Boskhnor village, Cheng Meanchey commune in Banon district, Battambang province. Ra has been a farmer for the past ten years and currently farms three hectares of rice paddy - this gives a yield of around three tons per hectare, two tons of which is stocked for his family’s basic needs. To procure more income for his household, he also grows maize on three hectares - this yield provides him with around three tons per hectare. If he grows maize over three months, he can sell it to traders. After cultivating the maize, he grows sesame on the same land, which gives a yield of one ton for three hectares. He owns a small hand tractor, with which he has operated his farm for the past seven years - it also reduces some of the associated costs of his farming. As his working capital is currently limited, he has taken out an eight month loan in order to buy good quality maize seeds, insecticide, weed killer and diesel for his hand tractor.
