Arlene Montejo is a 43 year old married woman with three children. Two of them are still under her care while the other one already has his own family. She and her 51 year old husband named Nolito work together in managing their one and a half hectare of land. They grow different kinds of vegetables including tomatoes, aubergines, lettuce icebergs, cucumbers and round cabbages. Farming has been their primary source of income for the past 28 years. Arlene owns a multicab, a small four-wheel service vehicle that she uses to deliver their harvested crops to the market of Carbon in the city proper of Cebu. Arlene also has a regular customer who go directly to their house to buy their fresh crops. She employs five full time labourers who helps in taking care of their farm. Arlene has been a member of our MFI partner, Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative, for more than a year and has fully repaid one previous loan. She is requesting for a new loan to buy fertilisers that will help improve the quality of her vegetable crops. She has also bought an additional 15 metre length hose for easier watering of her crops. She is looking forward to have a good harvest this season to continuously meet the demands of her clients and earn more for her family. She intends to repay the loan over eighteen months.
