Thav Thon is 40 years old and married with two sons. The eldest is 13 and a monk and the youngest is 6 and attends the local primary school. Thav and her huband, Theany Tak, live in Sdao village, which is in Banon district in Battambang province. Thav is a farmer and her husband has been a carpenter for over 15 years. When his business is particularly busy, he takes on 3-5 temporary workers to help him. He pays $4 a day in wages per person. As their working capital is limited, Thav has sought a five month loan to buy steel, cement and bricks. Thav hopes one day to open a general store from his home (the photograph is of Thav's husband, Theany).
