Sophorn Thlang is 40 years old and married with three children. The eldest is 24 while the youngest is just 2. The eldest has migrated and is working abroad. Her second daughter is attending a sewing course locally. They live in Kro Pue Chueng village which is in Banon district in Battambang province. She has been a member of Takream Credit Union for the past year. Sophorn and her husband, Sareourn Mon, are farmers and own two hectares of rice paddy. Their rice paddy is located about two kilometres from their home. The yield is about three tonnes per hectare. They keep about one and half tonnes for their own consumption and sell the remainder. They can harvest two times a year. In the past, Sophorn has always rented a tractor whenever she needs to plough her land. However, she decided to seek a loan in order to buy a new hand tractor, she will be able to rent it out also. She intends to repay her loan over seven months. For the future she also wants to open a small shop from her home so that her second daughter can run a sewing shop.
