Loan description:
An Pok is 56 years old and married with four children aged between 14 and 22. The youngest is still attending a local school while the elder ones are working. They live in Sdey Krorm village in Ek Phnom district in Battambang province. An has been a member of Ek Phnom Credit Union for the past ten years. An and her husband, Thoeurng Yong, 50, have worked as farmers for over 20 years. They own one hectare of rice paddy which gives them a yield of about two tonnes per hectare. All of this is for the family's own consumption. After harvesting the rice, they work as farm labourers on other farms, harvesting maize. They can earn $7 a day from this. Additionally An has cultivated orange trees for about seven years. She has around 100 trees in total. She sells the fruit directly to merchants in her village. She has sought a three month loan from the credit union in order to buy fertiliser, pay for harvest and ploughing cost as well as buy diesel for her water pump as she needs to water her orange trees. An and her husband plan to additionally grow green beans after harvesting the rice next year.
