Hamida Bibi is 52 years old, married and lives in Lahore. She has two sons. Her children have already completed their basic education. Her husband and her youngest son are both currently unemployed. Her eldest son, 20, drives a rickshaw and earns 8,000 Rupees (£45) a month. Hamida runs a fancy embroidery business from her home and earns approximately 5,000 Rupees (£30) per month. She started her business about 10 years ago. She pays all the household expenses (utility bills, food, education, and clothing). A man from the local area gives her orders and designs, and then pays her according to work completed and the type of material used. She buys her material from the local bazaar. She wants to buy fancy material (pearls, stones, laces and yarn) in bigger quantities and has applied for a loan for this purpose. She can then work with cost effective materials, which will raise her income. She will then contribute more to her household expenses. She intends to pay back her loan in 15 installments.
