Chantha is a 36 year old married man with three children aged between 15 and 8 years old who all attend the local school. The family live in the Ek Phnom District of Battambang Province where he and his wife farm wet season rice each year which is sold to provide the family income.
Chantha has been a farmer for over 10 years, growing wet season rice on his paddy field which is two hectares in size. He gets an annual harvest of 3 tons of rice per hectare which is then sold to a local middle man who buys direct from his farm. He also has a second plot of land which is 3200 square metres in size which he uses for growing maize. In the past he has always rented a tractor from a fellow villager when he has needed to plough his field and this has come at a cost of $50 per hectare on each and every occasion. In order to reduce his annual rental costs he has requested this 36 month loan to purchase his own walking tractor. This will also ensure that he will be able to plough his fields at the optimum time rather than waiting for a rental tractor to become available.
Please note that loan repayments will be made every 6 months across the 36-month total loan term.
