We visited Lennie Bayron and her husband on the 14th October 2013 at their home in the town of Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija province. We looked at her internet shop and unfortunately there was no electricity because of the recent typhoon that affected the whole area. They owned a small generator before, but had sold it due to financial needs. She and her husband are quite disappointed because they cannot use a generator in this unexpected circumstances. Since the internet café is not operating, they are now engaged in charging mobile phones through the use of a vehicle battery. They charge customers 20 Philippine pesos per phone that has been fully-charged. In fact, her husband is a technician of mobile phones, so he knows how to fix electronic equipment. Right now, the shops has 10 units of desktop computers plus one server. During regular business days, most of their clients are people who would like to access various social networking sites and play online games. Lennie has been a client of ASKI for almost 2 years and her business operating since 2007. She is able to avail a total of three loan cycles, including her lendwithcare loan of 40,000 pesos that she used to improve the business and maintain the good condition of her computers. Her usual income from the shop is 600 to 700 Philippine pesos day. Aside from charging mobile phones, she is also planning to engage in other income generating activities like selling snacks like pancakes and street foods, while her husband is preparing to visit Manila just to find a part-time job preferably repairing mobile phones until the electricity is restored. Despite the present challenges, Lennie is still able to repay her loan regularly.
