Iyadjemi buys more and sells more maize

Iyadjemi is a maize trader. We saw her at her house because it was not market day when we visited. Iyadjemi used the loan she received last year to buy large amounts of maize. Her business is growing she said, she buys more and sells more. She now replenishes her stock every 5 days, she sells it quicker and she hires 2 people on a part time basis. The biggest challenges to her business at present are the transportation costs - she lives quite far from the market, about one and a half hours by motorcycle - ; and the lack of appropriate storage space, there is always the risk of pests eating her maize. Her plans in the short term are to build this storage place and to buy land for her business and a house for herself and her husband. At the moment she lives in her husband's family household. Iyadjemi has 3 children, they all finished school; at present one is a mechanic, one is a chauffeur and one is married and lives independently. Iyadjemi is not sure how much her monthly profit is but she contributes considerably to the family's household expenses and with her husband they have recently been able to buy a motorcycle. She is also saving money.
